We're on the west coast! I'm doing a presentation in Vancouver next week but I figured we'd spend a bit more time and try to justify the jet-lag with some other meetings and events. Today was the first of these and it was a real adventure: the second trip by Voyageur to the U.S.A.– to Seattle WA.
Nothing official... yet, of course, but the director of education at the famed Experience Music Project Museum had been turned on to the Six String Nation project by my friend Kathleen Pirrie-Adams and wanted to meet me and the guitar and bluesky about doing something with it there in the future. It was a great meeting and already some things are starting to bubble under the surface that I hope I'll be able to tell you more about in the near future.
If you haven't been to EMP, it's an extraordinary experience. The regular interactive exhibits are pretty amazing on their own, as is the permanent guitar exhibit; but we were fortunate to be there for not only the "Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses" exhibit - which was great - but also the "Battlestar Galactica" exhibit in the part of the museum that's the Sci Fi Hall of Fame. Plus, of course, the building itself is one of Frank Gehry's most vivid and whimsical signature buildings and worth the visit all on its own.
Thanks to Patricia Costa Kim and the staff at EMP, Kathleen Pirrie-Adams, Polly & Dave and the Cylons for not turning me into a robot (.... or did they?)
