Teacher Mary-Ann Fratia had been trying for some time to get the Six String Nation presentation at her school, Cawthra Park S.S. in Mississauga ON, and today was the day. In fact, it was the DayX2 as I did two back to back presentations for different grade groupings.
First off, Cawthra Park has an enviable auditorium set up - really nice - but it wasn't just the venue that made today so special. In both sessions, I felt a really great commitment and attention from the students and I think they really connected with the stories in and about the guitar - lots of great comments after the presentations. Also, it's a very diverse school and is known for its arts programs so who knows? May be it was a function of those things?!?!?!
Suffice to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Cawthra Park and very much enjoyed the young musicians who brought Voyageur to life - 2 in each session - including Blake (last name coming), Richard Xu, Jon Butcher and Zining Wang (pictured, who played a great version of the Gary Jules arrangement of Tears for Fears' "Mad World").
Very glad to be part of International Cultural Diversity Day at Cawthra Park.
Thank you to Mary-Ann Fratia, Principal Jane Michalak, the tech support crew, the musicians, Don Ablett, Ian Pettigrew and all the staff and students at Cawthra Park S.S.
