I had been hoping to do more school visits on this trip but a current job action among teachers in British Columbia has meant it's been almost impossible to bring any special program into schools. Almost. Lucky for me, one of our biggest champions is Paul McCabe, president of Roland Canada, who is very active as a parent in his own kids' school, Surrey Centre Elementary. Paul (pictured, left) took on most of the organizing work - not to mention setting up the gear and running the sound.
Students, staff and parents all came to the gym for the presentation and a performance by Gordon Davies (pictured, right) - a fantastic player and guitar teacher at the nearby Heritage Music School - who even managed to get a little Bryan Adams in. One day we'll have to get him on this guitar too.
And hopefully the labour dispute will be resolved soon and we can come back to BC to have a whole bunch of school visits as good as this one was.
Special thanks to Paul, Tracy and the whole extended McCabe Family who attended, Gord Davies, principal Barbara White and the staff and students of Surrey Centre Elementary school.
