Planning for a Good Time

A while ago, I received an email from my friends at the National Speakers Bureau about an October engagement in Ottawa addressing the OPP. I immediately started looking through our portrait database looking for pictures of police officers with the guitar (there are a good half dozen at least) to include in the presentation. Then I looked more closely at the email and saw that it was actually not a conference of the Ontario Provincial Police but rather the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).

As a matter of fact, I'm very interested in the work of urban planners so it was a real treat to address the group. As usual, many people came up afterwards to tell me their own stories connected to Voyageur: the couple from Thunder Bay amazed that the Hoito Restaurant was in the guitar; the woman who had been a tree planter and visited the Golden Spruce before it was felled; and the photographer whose uncle (Kenny Mosdell) had been Rocket Richard's roommate on Habs road trips in the '50's (Kenny is also the only guy to have his name misspelled 4 times out of 5 on the Stanley Cup!); and the gentleman who had just heard about Six String Nation from his daughter whose school I visited just a week ago! It never fails to amaze me the connections that just seem to spill from every encounter with this guitar.

Thanks to the OPPI delegates and staff including Sue Cumming, Denis Duquet, Loretta Ryan and Rory Baksh (pictured) who brought Voyageur to life at the end of the presentation, Jacqui Sullivan at Absolute Events for setting it all up, technicians Wayne and Nathan and photographer Greg Teckles.
