Last night, the Royal St. George's College school in Toronto hosted a Six String Nation presentation for the community at the Walmer Rd. Baptist Church at the corner of Walmer Rd. and Lowther Ave in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood. It's an absolutely gorgeous building inside - opened in 1889 when the Annex was a new suburb of Toronto a block north of the Bloor St. boundary.
It was a bitterly cold night but a cozy crowd inside for the presentation. If you've ever seen one of the presentations, you'll know they always end with someone bringing Voyageur to life with music. This was beautifully handled last night as we started with student Francis Blair - a very promising young guitarist and an overall smart and interesting guy. He lead with a jazz tune and then we introduced Chris Patterson, whom you might recognize for his recent solo kids-music record, "Small Potatoes", or from his full-time adult (and occasionally childish) band, the Arrogant Worms. Chris came out to join Francis (pictured) and together they played a couple of Worms tunes, including "Celine Dion" and "Proud to Be Canadian" with some special new Six String Nation verses written in the dressing room by Francis and Chris.
Thanks to everyone for coming out on a cold night with very special thanks to Emma Roche for organizing the event, Chris and Francis for playing, Royal St. George's College for hosting and Walmer Rd. Baptist Church for sharing their beautiful venue. Thanks also to Barry for the sound, Titus from Ben McNally Books, Paul O'Leary, Janet Somerville and all the friends and teachers who came up to say hello at the end of the evening.
